. The Gevaudan area was famous for its wild beast, a mostrous wolf with a taste for human flesh. In days gone by in Narbonne, there lived a maid who was a beautiful as day but who was also a witch and a vampire; she turned her husband into a dog. There are hidden treasures everywhere, some buried by Saracens and the Knights Templar, others including the dragon's g"arnet and why not the Holy Grail itself.
The swallowholes that pit the Causse area like entrances to Hell. The caves are the home of the little People. Dolmens and Phantom towers stand guard on outcrops of rock.

.... The Cathar fortresses soar beyond the skyline, communicating through an enigmatic sort of geography of the zodiac. This is the Languedoc and the Roussillon, regions where mystery reigns, where legends go hand-in-hand with history, and where extraordinary events seem to be everyday occurences..

How could anybody not love such a place, the stone-slabbed roofs of the houses, the carnal mysticism of the Romanesque churches, and the haughty nostalgia of the fortified cathedrals? How could anybody not love the sincerity, independance and fervour of the local people? In the complex rugby scrums, the nautical jousts in Agde and Sète, the circular formation of the sardanne dabced to the sounds of the cobla on the squares in Perpignan and collioure, there is an ideal for life and a blend of aestheticism and unity.
